Meet 12-year old Charlie, his best friend Jake, and other kids in a small country town called Rosedale. It was a normal place to live . . . until the weird stuff started happening. After almost everyone in town disappears, weird tornados start ripping things apart. These kids are now on their own and need to find a way to survive in this strange new place. Or find somewhere else to live.
Sure, Charlie is very bright but he's also pretty shy. Should he be expected to save them all on his own? Jake's the funny kid with the wild imagination but can he imagine a solution to this awful problem? Trevor is good guy and a few years older but he has his hands full trying to deal with bullies, Ben, Frank, and Weird Eddy. And then there's Trevor's younger sister, Penny -- a good athlete but very bossy. She says nothing scares her, but . . . well, maybe she'll need to reconsider!

After an incredible escape from Rosedale, the kids find themselves in a strange new land where they'll need to build shelter, find food, and try to survive. They are surrounded by lush forests, mountains, rivers, and weird-but-harmless animals. After their frightening ordeal back in Rosedale, this sounds like a better place, right? Maybe not. Remember Professor Aldino's warning: Beware of the Daro!
Something is out there and it is certainly not friendly. Will the mote around their camp protect them? How about their home-made weapons or the bb guns they brought from Rosedale? Or will Charlie's brain power save them and explain where they are?
While scouting in the forest with Pala, Penny gets lost . . . or does the adventure take an amazing turn when she meets a strange girl in a tree?
